2019I am currently working on a large scale textile piece - with a working title of Perception. This work continues on from my graduate exhibition The Perpetual Child in 2016. The work looks at how memories and incidents can be perceived. The way we perceive something may not be what is happening or has happened.
Measuring 57 x 45 inches, this work is built of layers; the first layer being a blank canvas pinned to the ground by tent pegs; the second layer consists of mixed media including watercolour, acrylic, pen, charcoal, a multi coloured crayon, my hand, brushes and a recycled catering size can of baked beans.
Layer 2 currently is hand stitching and embellishment. For layer 3 I transferred images from sketches onto the canvas using chalk and wax pastels.
I am inspired by Rose Wylie and her use of large canvases. I saw her winning piece at at Walker Art Gallery in 2014 and was drawn to the scale of her work and the naive style.
